Tips for Success

How to get the most out of your daily reflection practice.

Teaching

As I wrote Daily Reflections, I was thinking about your busy schedule. That's why each one is short - but hopefully powerful.

To squeeze the most juice out of each lesson, here's what I recommend:

  1. Before you read each reflection, open your heart to God in prayer.
  1. Create a designated space and time for these daily reflections.
  1. Decide if you want to respond in writing: with a journal, a computer, or a tablet. Have these tools ready to go.
  1. Eliminate distractions. Turn off your phone.
  1. Share your reflections with a friend. When you feel comfortable doing so, share your thoughts on each one.
  1. Once a week, revisit what you reflected on earlier. See if you've changed your mind or had new insights.
  1. Don't worry about being perfect or thorough. A little bit of engagement in God's word is better than nothing.
  1. Stay simple; focus on what helps you grow in your faith.
  1. Be kind to yourself: there's no rule that says you have to complete all the prompts.
  1. Skip the prompts that aren't interesting.
  1. Feel free to adjust a prompt to better suit your situation - or come up with your own!
