Understanding that because God is our Creator, our lives have inherent purpose and meaning.
Because God is our Creator, it also means we are responsible. Unlike God, we don't exist independently. We didn't create ourselves or author our own story. Rather, we exist within God's Creation, and therefore, within God's story.
As I mentioned earlier, our prayer is, "Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." One day, earth will once again be perfected, as it comes under the complete rule of God, just as it is in heaven.
Knowing that you have a Creator means your life has a purpose. It means you are not an accident.
God made you for a reason. That reason is to be part of re-creating his world - to demonstrate through your life that God is the Creator and that his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom.
And this is not an individualistic pursuit but one that we pursue together as God's image bearers.
Knowing that God is the Creator changes our approach to power, our experience of entitlement, our search for identity, and our longing for purpose.
And again, it is not just knowing that God is our Creator - it is experiencing and encountering the Creator that changes who we are and leads us to worship him.
O LORD, how manifold are your works! In wisdom have you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. Here is the sea, great and wide, which teems with creatures innumerable, living things both small and great.
These all look to you, to give them their food in due season. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are filled with good things.
May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works, who looks on the earth and it trembles, who touches the mountains and they smoke! I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being. May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the LORD.
Bless the LORD, O my soul! Praise the LORD!
(Psalm 104)
Because God is our Creator, our lives have inherent purpose and meaning. How does this challenge the narratives of our culture that suggest we have to define or create our own purpose?
If someone asked you what you thought the purpose of your life was, how would you respond? How does your answer reflect the truth that you were made to demonstrate God's kingdom and re-create his world?
How have you experienced the importance of community and collaboration in living out your calling?
