Understanding that God is incredibly persistent in saving His people.
We are delighting in our First Love!
But it isn't always easy to delight in God. In this module, we are going to discuss one of the primary tensions in our relationship with God.
In my heart, sometimes I can't shake the sense that God is not pleased with me. That something is wrong with my relationship with him.
We all feel guilty, ashamed, and afraid of God.
There's that sense that maybe God doesn't care, maybe God doesn't love me.
Perhaps mistakes in your past make you feel distant from God. Maybe others have mistreated or even abused you, possibly in the name of Jesus. As a result, it may be hard for you to trust that God cares for you.
Or maybe there are some addictions or bad habits that you can't break free from.
For God to be our First Love, we need to know that God can save us. That God can rescue us from our problems. But this idea that God is Savior might feel tired and worn out. We tune it out, we find it boring. Oh yeah, heard that before. Jesus saves. Ok, whatever. We don't want to feel that way, but, the truth is, we do.
What we're going to remember today is that God is like a good Father who constantly lets his children know that he loves them. His pursuit of us is uncommon. We're going to see that God is incredibly persistent in saving his people.
Lord, we wait patiently for you. You have paid attention to us and heard our cries for help.
You drew us out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog.
You set our feet upon the rock. You have made our steps secure.
You put a new song in our mouths, a song of praise to you.
Many will see and fear, and put their trust in you.
We love you. Help us to love you more.
In Christ's name, Amen.
Who can you honestly talk to about the ways in which you feel disconnected from God?
Each day for one week, write down at least one way you witnessed or experienced God's love or pursuit of you. This could be through a conversation, a moment in nature, a passage of Scripture that spoke to you, or a sense of peace in prayer.
