Sabbath rest as essential to spiritual well-being and God's mission.
We believe Christians are called to order their time differently than everyone else.
Sabbath rest is a gift from God, and we want to receive this gift with gratitude.
In Mark 2, Jesus teaches, "The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. So then, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."
(As a side note: It's a striking claim to divinity to state that you are in charge of the day of worship!)
As Dr. Michael LeFebvre puts it, "The cadence of labor and worship taught in the creation week calendar is the cadence that enables us to keep all our work framed in the joy of God's reign over us and his victories to provide us with present and eternal life."
Pastor Rich Villodas reminds us "We keep Sabbath not because it makes us more productive at work. We keep it to resist the idol of productivity."
We believe that God is on a mission that he has commissioned us to join. But does God need us to work 24/7/365?
No. Sabbath rest is essential to our spiritual well-being and ability to carry out God's mission.
We need to create space for rest, renewal, and worship. We want to enjoy Sabbath rest in God's presence.
Then he told them, "The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. So then, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."
